'Mount Up' - Broncs Host Mount St. Mary's Friday Night
LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University women's basketball team is back on the hardwood Friday night when the Broncs host Mount St. Mary's University at 7pm in a non-conference game at Alumni Gymnasium.
Rider (1-1) is coming off a 53-51 loss to NJIT which saw the Broncs erase 14 points of a 16 point deficit in the final 12:30 of the game, only to have the final shot blocked at the buzzer.
Rider was led by junior MyNeshia McKenzie (Springfield, Pa./Springfield (Delco)) who had 18 points and tied a career-high with 16 rebounds.
Rider was held to 18 percent shooting (11-60) but the Broncs stayed in the game, getting to the free throw line 34 times and making 25.
Mount St. Mary's (0-1) is coming off a season-opening loss at fifth ranked Maryland 88-47.
Former Northeast Conference rivals, Rider and The Mount faced each other last year for the first since the 2004 season, with the Broncs winning 53-44 behind 15 points from then junior Sironda Chambers (Newark, Del.) and 10 rebounds from McKenzie.
Last season was Rider's first win in 14 tries at Knott Arena in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
Friday night will be the 22nd meeting between the teams with The Mount holding a 16-5 series lead. Rider has won two in a row over Mount St. Mary's.
