Rider Signs Florida Forward
LAWRENCEVILLE-Kahlil Thomas of Lauderhill, Florida, a senior at Blanche Ely High School in Florida, has signed a national letter of intend to further his education and basketball career at Rider University, Rider head coach Kevin Baggett announced.
Thomas was ranked among the top 20 recruits in the state of Florida by FloridaHoops.com and his Blanche Ely team was ranked second in Florida this preseason. In Broward County he was recently named to the Fab 5.
"We are excited Kahlil has chosen to come to Rider," Baggett said. "I think he is a really talented player who plays with a lot of energy. I think his best days are ahead of him."
A 6'7" forward, Thomas averaged 7.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game last year, leading his team to a 30-3 season as the FHSAA 7A State Champions. In the Championship game Thomas compiled 13 points and 14 rebounds and went on to earn All-County honors.
A participant in the ESPN High School National Invitational, Thomas played two years at Deerfield Beach High School, where he averaged 10.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots as an Honorable Mention All-County sophomore on a 20-5 team. As a freshman his squad was 15-9.
Under first-year head coach Baggett, the Broncs got off to a 2-2 start and are currently on a four-game road trip as part of the Hoops for Hope Classic.
