Rider Hosts La Salle Thursday
Broncs Home after Four Road Games
LAWRENCEVILLE-After four games in three cities, two states and two countries, the Rider men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Alumni Gymnasium Thursday to host La Salle.
The 7pm tip in the newly refurbished Alumni Gymnasium can be seen on the BroncSportsNetwork, with live video streaming on BroncVison and live stats on GameViewer.
Tickets can be purchased online by clicking the "TicketLeap" link in this story or in person on game day at the ticket window in the lobby of Alumni Gymnasium. The ticket booth will open on 6 p.m. for Thursday's game.
Rider will honor 214 student-athletes at halftime as part of Academic Achievement Night.
The Broncs (4-3) came home from their recent road trip with the Rick Majerous Cup for going 2-0 in Mexico, 2-2 overall in the Hoops for Hope Classic.
Junior Anthony Myles (Dover, DE/Poly-Tech) also came home with some hardware, joining players from SMU, Missouri State, South Carolina and Arkansas Little Rock on the five-member All-Tournament team.
Myles had a career game in the 15-point win over Jacksonville, compiling 23 points and nine rebounds, and enters Thursday's game averaging 14.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for the season.
The Explorers (3-1) are coming off an overtime win over Big 5 rival Villanova at the Palestra Sunday. In that game junior Tyreek Duren scored 19 of his 23 points after halftime and was named the Big 5 Player of the Week. Duren was a high school teammate of the Stewart brothers at Neumann-Goretti High and leads La Salle with a 15.5 ppg average.
La Salle began the season by beating Delaware by seven before losing to Central Connecticut by seven. The Explorers won at Hartford by 13 points before upsetting 'Nova.
Junior Nurideen Lindsey (Philadelphia, PA/Overbrook) leads Rider with 15.6 points per game, senior Jonathon Thompson (Orlando, Fla./Jones) is adding 11.0 points and 4.9 rebounds while junior Daniel Stewart (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) is adding 9.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Stewart led Rider against La Salle last year at the Palestra. The Broncs lost to the Explorers 82-70 in the Philly Hoops Group Classic. In that game Stewart, a Philadelphia native, compiled 22 points, making 12 of 12 foul shots.
Rider defeated La Salle at the Tom Gola Arena during the 2010-11 season. The Broncs and Explorers are former East Coast Conference rivals (1974-75 to 1982-83) and before that Middle Atlantic Conference rivals (1966-67 to 1972-73).
La Salle has a rich basketball tradition, with National Players of the Year Lionel Simmons (1990), Michael Brooks (1980) and Tom Gola (1954). Former Explorer Rasual Butler played for La Salle 1998-2002 and moved on to the NBA with the LA Clippers and Toronto Raptors. Basketball analysts Bill Raftery '63 and Tim Legler '88 are also La Salle grads, as well as Niagara head coach Joe Mihalich.
After the La Salle game Rider travels to Philadelphia December 1 to play Drexel at 12 noon.
