Molloy finishes 3rd in 500-freestyle

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--The Rider University men's and women's swimming and diving teams are competing in the first annual Brown Invite.
The three day event is taking place this weekend at the Bear's Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatic Center.
After day one, the Rider men are in sixth place out of six teams with 76-points. The Rider women finished the day in seventh place out of eight and currently have 42-points.
For the Rider men, senior Brian Molloy (Toms River/Toms River East) finished third in the 500 yard freestyle finals in 4:30.07 after placing fifth in the preliminary round Friday afternoon.
Senior Johnny Funk (Las Vegas, Nev./Southeast Career & Tech. Academy) placed eighth in the finals of the 200 yard individual medley, clocking in at 1:54.20. The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Adam Phillips (Springville, Pa./Elk Lake), senior Julien Hensen (Delafield, Wisc./Kettle Moraine), freshman Jeffrey Prichard (Yorktown, Va./Tabernacle) and sophomore Brett Pedersen (Sewell/St. Augustine Prep) came in eighth place with a finishing time of 1:24.10. Pedersen also earned a 17th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (20.92), improving his 19th finish in the preliminary round (21.31).
For the Rider women, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of senior Katlyn Andrews (Lawrenceville/Notre Dame), sophomore Gess Charniga (Kendall Park/South Brunswick), senior Carly Misiewicz (Vineland/Sacred Heart) and sophomore Carlee Oswald (Henderson, Nev./Green Lake) finished in ninth with a time of 1:37.42. Andrews also placed 13th in the 50-yard free (24.03).
On the 1-mtr diving board for the Rider men, junior Trevor Hiller (Absegami Twp N.J./Galloway) finished 10th scoring a 242.00. Freshman Wayco Bailey (Casper. Wyo./Natrona County HS) finished behind Hiller in 11th scoring 238.70.
Also for the Rider women, the 400-yard medley relay team of C. Oswald, Charniga, senior Kelly O'Connor (Beverly, Mass/Beverly) and senior Addie Oswald Henderson/Nev./Green Valley) swam for 14th place in 3:55.91. A. Oswald moved up from 34th in the preliminary round to finish 22nd in the women's 500-yard freestyle (5:04.25).
The men's 400-yard medley relay also finished in 14th place as the team of Funk, Hensen, sophomore Zach DeLillo (Reading, Pa./Wilson) and Molloy finished with a time of 3:30.14.
Both the Princeton men and women ended the day in first place. The men scored 300 points and the women amassed 343.
For the men, Dartmouth are in second place behind Princeton with 258-points. The United States Military Academy (245) is in third, Columbia is fourth (151) and the host Bears finished the day in fifth place (138).
On the women's side, Yale (249) is behind Princeton in second with Dartmouth (197) in third. The Bears capped off the evening in fourth place with 149-points with the United States Military Academy (136) coming in fifth. The New Hampshire women are in sixth place with 60-points and Columbia is in eighth behind Rider with 27-points.
Competition continues through Sunday.
