Chambers MAAC Player of the Week
EDISON--Senior Sironda Chambers (Wilmington, Del./ Hodgson Vo-Tech.) of the Rider University women's basketball team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week it was announced Monday afternoon.
Chambers, a 5-7 guard, was honored for all games November 26-December 2.
Chambers led the Broncs to a 2-1 week as Rider (3-4) won at Lafayette and Brown and advanced to the championship game of the Brown Classic before losing to undefeated Quinnipiac (6-0) by a 72-57 score.
Chambers, who shot 53.2 percent from the field, averaged 20.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while logging 30 minutes per contest.
"Sironda had a great week," said head coach Lynn Milligan, in her sixth season at Rider. "She was a consistent scoring threat."
At Lafayette on November 27, Chambers had a career-high 24 points to go along with seven rebounds in a come from behind 68-64 win and at Brown on December 1, she recorded 23 points in a 57-47 victory over the host Bears.
Chambers recorded 15 points against Quinnipiac which is ranked 22nd in the current CollegeInsider.com mid-major poll and was named to the Brown Classic All-Tournament team.
"Sironda is playing with confidence," Milligan added. "She is scoring in a number of ways (from the field and from the free throw line) and we need her to continue to do that for the team to be successful."
An 82 percent shooter from the free throw line, Chambers is second in the MAAC and 125th nationally, averaging 16.1 points per game and has led Rider in scoring in five of seven contests so far this season.
Rider hosts Army (7-1) on Friday evening at 7pm in Alumni Gymnasium.
