Rider Set to Battle Army
LAWRENCEVILLE--After waging battle on enemy turf for the last four games, the Rider University women's basketball team returns home on Friday evening to the friendly confines of Alumni Gymnasium when the Broncs will host Army at 7pm.
Rider (3-4) is coming off an appearance in the championship game of the Brown Classic where the Broncs lost a tough battle with undefeated Quinnipiac 72-57. The Bobcats (6-0) are currently 17th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.
Army is receiving votes in the same poll after the Black Knights opened the 2012-13 campaign 8-1.
The Broncs come into play with wins over Stony Brook, Lafayette and Brown, all on the road.
Rider is led by senior Sironda Chambers (Wilmington, Delaware) who is second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, averaging 16.1 points per game.
Chambers was named the MAAC Player of the Week, this past week after averaging 20.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while logging 30 minutes per contest, earning all-tournament honors at the Brown Classic.
At Lafayette on November 27, Chambers had a career-high 24 points to go along with seven rebounds in a come from behind 68-64 win and at Brown on December 1, she recorded 23 points in a 57-47 victory over the host Bears.
Rider and Army have met five times with Rider winning three, including a 66-61 overtime victory in Alumni Gym on December 12, 2007.
If you can't make the game, all non-televised home games can be seen on BroncVision and MAAC.TV as part of Rider's pay per view service powered by GoBroncs.com and the audio will be simulcast on the video stream with Jeff Nolan, Dick Wiseman, Dave Polaski and Jon Mozes bringing you all of the action.
