Steve Brown - Rider triple jump record
Dashana Ransome Rider 60m hurdles record

BETHLEHEM, Pa.--The Rider University men's and women's track and field team kicked off their winter season in the Fast Times at Lehigh meet Friday night.

The meet was held at the Mountain Hawk's Rauch Field House.

For the Rider men, junior Steven Brown (Penns Grove) won the long jump (7.25m) and the triple jump, (15.11m) in the field.  Brown's triple jump set a new Rider record besting 15.01m by Mavis Polk in December, 2002 and Brown qualified for IC4As in both events. Senior David Hightower (Easton, Pa./Easton) finished first in the men's 60-meter hurdles, running an IC4A qualifying time of 8.18.

"Steve Brown competed exceptionally tonight," said head coach Bob Hamer.  "Breaking the triple jump record is a great accomplishment. He's trained very hard this fall and the results only indicate that he is primed for a great year."

For the Rider women, freshman La'tazah Coleman (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) opened her collegiate career with first place finishes in both the 60-meter (7.76) and 200-meter dash (25.57) and freshman Dashana Ransome (Irvington) finished second in the 60-meter hurdles running a new Rider record time of 8.86, besting the 9.04 mark by Karlise Cureton at Delaware in February, 2008.

"(La'tazah) Coleman had an outstanding meet," said Hamer.  "She's a special talent who can achieve great things if she continues to work hard and stays committed.  Overall, the freshman had an outstanding meet tonight.  They're obviously very talented and they competed well tonight. It's very exciting to have them contribute so much to this program in the first meet by winning events and breaking records."
