Broncs Travel Close to Home for Holidays

Three Short Trips Remain in December

LAWRENCEVILLE-Rider men's basketball fans received a holiday present this year, the ability to see the Broncs play on the road without the hassles of traveling over the mountains or through the woods.

The Broncs travel six miles up route 206 to Princeton to take on the Tigers December 20 at Jadwin Gymnasium, travel 23 miles north to Piscataway to play Rutgers in a 3pm Friday afternoon tip on December 28 at the Louis Brown Arena, and then the Broncs travel 80 miles south on New Year's Eve day for a 2pm tip at the University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center.

Tickets for these three games can be obtained by clicking on the links attached.

Rider lost 72-71 in overtime to Princeton last year, the first time the Tigers ever played in Rider's Alumni Gym. The two teams have met 12 times since the series began in 1931 with Rider winning three. The Broncs beat Princeton at the Sovereign Bank Arena in 2002-03.

The Tigers are led by senior forward Ian Hummer, the current Ivy League Player of the Week, who is averaging 15.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

The match-up between Rutgers and Rider will be the 16th meeting since the series began in 1947.  Three of the games have gone overtime.

Rider defeated Rutgers 61-57 during the 2007-08 season but lost the last two meetings, 66-62 at the Sovereign Bank Arena during the 2008-09 season and in overtime (80-70) at the RAC in 2009-10, the last meeting.

Rutgers recently defeated Rider's MAAC rival, Iona, 81-73 at Madison Square Garden. Scarlet Knight sophomore guards Eli Carter and Myles Mack are combining for 31.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. 6'9" junior forward Wally Judge is contributing 7.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Rider beat Delaware 95-86 in the 2010-11 BracketBuster game at Rider. Before that Rider beat Delaware 76-71 on November 17, 2007.  That was the 60th meeting between Rider and Delaware, with Rider winning 30 times in the series that began in 1969-70.  Rider and Delaware were East Coast Conference rivals from 1974-75 to 1990-91. Rider is 9-4 against Delaware since the two teams moved on to different conferences. Rider has won seven of the last eight meetings with Delaware.

The Fightin' Blue Hens lost 73-67 to cross-state rival Delaware State on December 8. UD is led by junior guard Devon Saddler, who is averaging over 20 points per game.

Rider junior guards Anthony Myles and Nurideen Lindsey are combining for 25.1 points per game. Myles is adding 5.0 rebounds per contest.  Senior Jonathon Thompson is contributing 10.8 points and 4.0 assists per game, while junior Daniel Stewart is adding 9.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

The Broncs had a two-game winning streak stopped by La Salle November 29 and then had another two-game winning streak stopped by Fairfield December 9.

The Broncs are 4-2 on the road this year, including 2-0 on neutral court.
