Meier Named to NSCAA Scholar All-America Team
LAWRENCEVILLE--Rider University junior Jennifer Meier was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as a member of the Third Team Scholar All-America Team.
"It is great to see Jenn named as an Academic All-American by the NSCAA," said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome. "She is the first player from our program to receive this honor."
Meier's teammate, senior Abi Cottam, was twice named to the First Team Capital One Academic All-America team (2011, 2012), which is sponsored by CoSIDA and voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Meier's award is voted upon by the Soccer Coaches of America and will be honored at the national convention in Indianapolis.
"Having two Academic All-Americans in one year is outstanding for our program and for Rider University," Hounsome said.
A First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection this year, Meier (Sayville, NY/St. Anthony's) was previously honored by the NSCAA as a 2012 Third Team All-Northeast Region selection.
"Moving Jenn into midfield midway through the season really allowed her to shine in conference play and she is rightfully now receiving the recognition both on and off the field," Hounsome said.
In the classroom Meier is an Elementary Education major with a 3.67 grade point average.
On the field Meier finished 10th in the MAAC in both points (11) and goals (four) this season, while leading the MAAC in shots per game from her midfield position.
The Broncs finished tied for fourth place in the MAAC at 5-3-1 and compiled an overall record of 10-4-3, Rider's most wins since the 2004 season and the highest winning percentage (.676) in program history.
