Rider at Midlands-Day One
EVANSTON, IL-The Rider wrestling team is competing in the 50th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern University. The Broncs are currently in 13th place in the 48-team field in the most prestigious amateur wrestling event in the nation, featuring the best collegiate and post-graduate wrestlers along with Olympic hopefuls.
The Third session begins Saturday night at 8pm Eastern Time.
133 sophomore Jimmy Morris (Northport, NY/St. Anthony's) is 2-0 and will face Laike Gardner of Lehigh in the third round tonight. Morris pinned Joe Moita of Columbia in 2:51 of the second round. Morris won by default in the first round over the eighth seed, Levi Mele of Northwestern
The 11th seed at 165, junior Ramon Santiago (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville) is 2-0 and will face Jim Wilson of Stanford in the third round Saturday night. Santiago defeated Josh Snook of Maryland 3-0 in the second round. Santiago won 10-4 in the first round over Nick Fishback of Wisconsin Parkside
184 sophomore Clint Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) is 1-0 and will face the second seed, Ben Bennett of Central Michigan in the third round tonight. Morrison pinned Matt Gille of Wisconsin Parkside in 6:05 the second round after receiving a first round bye.
184 freshman Ryan Wolfe (New Castle, Del./Caravel) wrestled unattached and is 1-0. He faces the top seed, Robert Hamlin of Lehigh in the third round tonight. After receiving a first round bye Wolfe pinned Cole Shafer of Iowa State in 6:24 in the second round.
197 sophomore Donald McNeil (Plainville, Mass./Wyoming Seminary) is in the consolations against Justin Ortega of Clarion tonight. McNeil lost 4-1 to the 11th seed, Jackson Hein of Wisconsin in the second round after receiving a first round bye.
125 freshman Patrick Skinner (Freeport, NY/Kellenberg) is in the consolations tonight against Jared Germaine of E. Michigan. Skinner was pinned by the 12th seed, Shane Gentry of Maryland in 2:39 in the second round after a first round bye.
174 junior James Brundage (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) is in consolations tonight against Mike Dessino of Bloomsburg. Brundage received a first round bye and lost 7-4 to the fifth seed, Stephen West of Columbia in the second round.
141 sophomore Vinny Fava (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park) went 1-2 in the tournament. In consolations Fava lost 4-2 to Matt Greene of Northwestern. Fava lost 10-2 to Brandon Nelson of Purdue in the second round. Fava won a 13-4 major decision in the first round over Justin Meyers of Northwestern
157 senior Zac Cibula (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg Casco) was 1-1 in the tournament before withdrawing due to injury. Cibula lost to the ninth seed, Tommy Churchard of Purdue, 5-4 on a tie breaker in the second round. Cibula defeated Troy Hernandez of Penn 6-4 in the first round.
