Broncs at Delaware This Afternoon
Rider at Delaware Monday Afternoon
NEWARK, DE--The Rider men's basketball team will seek its 18th win of the year when it travels to the University of Delaware Sunday afternoon.
Game time is 2pm in the Bob Carpenter Center.
With one game remaining, the Broncs are 17-15 in the 2012 calendar year.
The Broncs (6-7) are coming off a 68-56 loss at Rutgers on December 28. In that game Rider trailed by just three points, 52-49, with 5:24 left to play. Daniel Stewart made all 14 of his foul shots and finished with a game-high 20 points. Jon Thompson had seven assists and Anthony Myles added 14 points.
Thompson's seven assists gives him 315 for his career, 12th most ever at Rider and just one assist shy of 10th.
Rider has had balanced scoring, with Myles (13.2), Thompson (10.5), Stewart (9.8) and Nurideen Lindsey (11.4).
The last time Rider played Delaware was in the 2010-11BracketBuster game, a 95-86 Bronc victory at Rider.
Rider has won the last four meetings and seven of the last eight against its former Middle Atlantic Conference and East Coast Conference rival. Delaware holds a slight 31-30 advantage in the series that began in 1969-70.
Delaware (4-8) now competes in the Colonial Athletic Association and was 12-6 (fifth) in the CAA last year.
Two of Delaware's four wins this season have come against the University of Pennsylvania, in the NIT Tip Off Tournament and again on December 21. In the recent win over the Quakers, 6-9 forward Jamelle Hagins and 6-2 guard Jarvis Threatt each scored 18 points and they combined for 20 rebounds and six assists. Delaware's leading scorer is 6-2 junior guard Devon Saddler, who is averaging 19.8 points per game. Hagans is averaging 13.2 points and 12.2 rebounds.
UD was 2-2 in the Preseason NIT, defeating Virginia before losing to Kansas State and Pitt in Madison Square Garden. The K State loss began a five-game skid before the Blue Hens beat Radford.
Delaware was 18-14 last year. In the 2012 CAA Tournament Delaware beat Towson before losing to Old Dominion. Delaware competed in the CBI Tournament last year, losing at Butler.
Many believe the clean slate of a New Year beckons. Rider looks to begin 2013 with the clean slate of a .500 record, and end 2012 with an 18th victory.
