Rider's Steven Brown Honored by the MAAC
EDISON--What can Brown do for the Broncs?
He keeps delivering for the Rider University men's track and field team.
For the first time this season and third time in his Rider career, junior Steven Brown (Penns Grove) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Performer of the Week.
Brown was honored for all competition the first week of 2013.
At the Monmouth Invitational on January 5, Brown was champion in the long jump (7.12m) and triple jump (14.78m), reaching IC4A qualifying marks in both events.
"Steven is having a great start to his indoor season," said head coach Bob Hamer. "We are excited about the progress he has made this year."
In Rider's season opening meet at Lehigh on December 7, 2012, Brown won the long jump (7.25m) and the triple jump, (15.11m). Brown's triple jump set a new Rider record besting 15.01m by Mavis Polk in December, 2002 and Brown qualified for IC4As in both events.
"The early success this season should provide Steven a springboard to bigger performances later this season," Hamer added.
Last season, Brown earned All-East honors with a sixth place finish in the long jump at the IC4A meet in Boston, Massachusetts.
Rider travels to West Point, New York to take part in the Army 6-Way meet on January 12.
