Rider's Stewart Honored by MAAC, CollegeSportsMadness.com
LAWRENCEVILLE-Rider University junior forward Daniel Stewart was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week for all games played January 7-13. Stewart was also honored for the same time period by CollegeSportsMadness.com.
In a pair of MAAC wins last week, Stewart averaged 22.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. He made 15 of 16 foul shots while shooting 65 percent from the field (15 of 23).
"I am very proud of Daniel Stewart receiving these awards," said Rider head coach Kevin Baggett. "Daniel has done a great job of continuing to develop into a complete player on the court and a leader off the court. I couldn't be more proud of him."
The 6'7", 210 pound Stewart (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) compiled his second and third 'double doubles' of the season.
In a 69-60 win at Manhattan Stewart grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds. Manhattan cut the lead to one point before Stewart scored the next five points to give Rider a 59-53 lead.
Stewart compiled 23 points against Loyola Sunday afternoon for Rider's third straight win.
For the season, Stewart is averaging 11.4 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game.
Stewart now has 810 career points and 569 career rebounds.
Stewart shared the Player of the Week award with Iona's Sean Armand.
The Broncs (9-9, 4-2 MAAC) travel to Saint Peter's Thursday for an ESPN3 contest.
