JERSEY CITY-The Rider men's basketball team will take on Saint Peter's University in the National MAAC Game of the Week Thursday night, with the 8:30 game broadcast on ESPN3.
Rider (9-9, 4-2 MAAC) has won its last three games, including a 64-57 win over the defending MAAC Champion, Loyola, and a 69-60 win at Manhattan that was also broadcast on ESPN3.
The Peacocks (6-10, 1-5 MAAC) have lost their last four games and are 3-5 at home in the Yanitelli Center.
Their lone MAAC win was a 64-62 decision over Iona on December 5. SPU is 2-6 since that win.
In their last game, a 66-53 loss at Siena, the Peacocks committed 19 turnovers and shot 39 percent from the field.
The Peacocks are led by sophomore guard Desi Washington, who is scoring 15.3 points per game, and senior guard Yvon Raymond, who is contributing 10.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest.
Saint Peter's finished 5-26 last season and was the ninth seed in the MAAC Tournament with a 4-14 conference record. Two years ago the Peacocks finished in fourth place in the regular season but came on to win the 2011 MAAC Championship Tournament. Saint Peter's was 20-14 that year, 11-7 in the MAAC.
Rider has won 11 of the last 14 meetings with Saint Peter's. Since joining the MAAC Rider is 22-14 against the Peacocks. Rider beat SPU in the 2010 MAAC Tournament, the sixth time these two teams met in postseason play.
The Broncs and Peacocks have met 51 times since the series began in 1942-43, with Rider winning 27, including the last three. The Broncs won 75-72 at Rider in the 2010-11 regular season finale and both games last season.
