Broncs Host Saint Peter's Thursday Evening
LAWRENCEVILLE--For the first time in two weeks, the Rider University women's basketball team will host a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game in Alumni Gymnasium, when the Broncs face Saint Peter's University on Thursday at 7pm.
January is youth month and the Rider University Department of Athletics has announced that all kids, 18 and under, can purchase $2.00 tickets to any men's and women's basketball game and wrestling meet in Alumni Gym on the Lawrenceville campus this January.
One of the top road teams in the nation (six wins), Rider (7-10, 2-4 MAAC) looks to get back on track in Lawrenceville after winning only one of six home games to open the season.
The Broncs are led by junior MyNeshia McKenzie (Springfield, Pa./Springfield (Delco) who is coming off a 20-point, nine rebound effort at Canisius on January 20.
McKenzie is averaging 14.5 points (fourth best in the MAAC) and she is tied for the conference lead with 9.4 rebounds per game, which is 63rd best in the nation. McKenzie is 62nd nationally shooting 83.5 percent from the free throw line and she is averaging 17.7 points and 10.3 rebounds in conference play.
The Broncs are also being paced by senior Sironda Chambers (Wilmington, Del.) at 13.7 points per game. Chambers is 29th nationally from the free throw line, making 86.4 percent and as a team, Rider is 45th (73.6 percent) from the charity stripe.
Senior Caitlin Bopp (Baltimore, Md./Inst. of Notre Dame), a 95-game veteran, continues her strong play. Bopp is averaging 9.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game and her 2.06 blocks per contest are second in the MAAC and 32nd best in the nation. In her career, Bopp has compiled 815 points and her 810 rebounds are third best all-time at Rider.
Saint Peter's University (0-17, 0-6 MAAC) comes into play with six losses by 10-points or less, including an overtime loss to Bucknell.
11 of Rider's 17 games have been decided by seven points or less with Rider winning four of the 11.
Saint Peter's swept Rider last season and the Peacocks lead the all-time series 42-9.
After the game Thursday, Rider travels to Fairfield for a 2pm MAAC game on January 27 before the Broncs return home for three straight games, against Manhattan (January 31), Niagara (February 2) and the re-match against the Stags on February 7.
