Five Broncs Ranked by NCAA Coaches
Rankings Used for NCAA Qualifying
INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA has released the first of three coaches' panel rankings for the 2012-13 wrestling season.
The final rankings will be one of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine the qualifiers for the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
The panel ranks 33 wrestlers in each weight class and five Broncs, junior Ramon Santiago (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville), sophomore Jimmy Morris (Northport, NY/St. Anthony's), senior Zac Cibula (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg Casco), junior James Brundage (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) and sophomore Donald McNeil (Plainville, Mass./Wyoming Seminary) were among the ranked wrestlers.
"Having five starters ranked amongst the Top 33 in the nation is a good step in the right direction for those individuals and our program," said associate head coach John Hangey. "It is critical for these individuals to achieve and maintain this ranking as it helps them in their efforts to qualify for the NCAA's."
Santiago is currently ranked 20th at 165. Santiago is 23-6 overall and ranked 17th in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News, 20th by InterMat.
Morris is currently 24th at 133 and owns a 22-9 record as the second ranked 133 in the CAA.
The second ranked 157 in the CAA, Cibula is currently 27th and owns a record of 19-6.
McNeil is currently 29th at 197 and is 16-11 overall and ranked third in the CAA.
Brundage is currently 31st at 174 with a 14-9 record. Brundage is ranked third in the CAA in his weight class.
Wrestlers in each weight class will be measured by winning percentage, rating percentage index (RPI) and coaches' rankings to earn spots for the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
The coaches' rankings are compiled by a vote of coaches representing each qualifying tournament. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class.
In order to be eligible for the rankings, wrestlers must have participated in at least five matches against Division I opponents and have wrestled within the last 30 days.
