PISCATAWAY--The Rider University men's swimming and diving team defeated Fordham and lost to Yale with the Bronc women swept by Rutgers and Fordham Saturday afternoon in Piscataway in a quad-meet.

For the Rider women, senior Kelly O'Connor (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) was second in the 200 fly (2:06.53) and took third in the 400 IM (4:37.76).

For the Rider men, senior Brian Molloy (Toms River/Toms River HS East) was second in both the 50 free (21.59) and 200 free (1:41.95).  Molloy was also third in the 500 free (4:45.56).

"It was a special day in that it was our senior's last dual meet representing Rider University," said head coach Steve Fletcher.  "The women were challenged by an A10 title contender in Fordham and newly introduced Big 10 team in Rutgers.  It is rare to see a meet like this in college swimming with four schools and four different conferences intersecting.  Our women did a great job handling themselves in a highly competitive environment. Our goal was to focus inwardly on our team chemistry and competitiveness to prepare for the MAAC championships.  Our men haven't competed against Yale since 1942 so the meet today was a piece of history.  There were some bright spots in our meet against Yale with some of our experienced seniors narrowly missing wins in multiple events.  I think the men surprised each other in our ability to keep pace with Fordham."

Senior Johnny Funk (Las Vegas, Nev./Southeast Career & Tech. Academy) was runner-up in the 100 back (51.84) and the 200 back (1:54.62) and third in the 400 IM (4:08.78) with freshman Adam Phillips (Springville, Pa./Elk Lake) finishing second in the 100 breast (59.04).  Phillips was also third in the 200 breast (2:12.15).

Junior diver Trevor Hiller (Galloway Twp./Absegami) won the one-meter (288.45) and was second on the three-meter board (286.55).

The men's 400 free relay of Molloy, Phillips, freshman Jeffrey Prichard (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) and senior Julien Hensen (Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine) was second with a time of 3:10.97 and the 200 medley relay of Funk, Hensen, sophomore Zachary DeLillo (Reading, Pa./Wilson) and Phillips was second with a time of 1:35.00.

The women's 400 free relay of senior Addie Oswald (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley), senior Carly Misiewicz (Vineland/Sacred Heart), sophomore Gess Charniga (Kendall Park/South Brunswick) and sophomore Carlee Oswald (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley) was third with a time of 3:43.57.

Rider competes at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships February 14-16 in Buffalo, New York at Erie Community College.  The Rider men are defending MAAC champions with the Bronc women placing runner-up in 2011-12.

"We are looking forward to the conference championships in February," Fletcher added.
