Broncs Begin Three-Game Home Stand
LAWRENCEVILLE--Riding a two-game winning streak, the Rider University women's basketball team returns home on Thursday evening to face Manhattan College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at 7pm in Alumni Gymnasium.
Rider (9-10, 4-4 MAAC) is led by two-time MAAC Player of the Week, junior MyNeshia McKenzie (Springfield, Pa./Springfield (Delco)) who is averaging 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
McKenzie is coming off her 20th career 'double-double', scoring 19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds as the Broncs upset second place Fairfield 69-57 this past Sunday.
Rider is also paced by senior Sironda Chambers (Wilmington, Del.) (13.4 points, 4.5 rebound per game) and senior Caitlin Bopp (Baltimore, Md./Inst. of Notre Dame) who is averaging 9.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest.
Bopp enters the game averaging 2.11 blocks per game, 28th best in the nation.
In her seven career games against Manhattan, Bopp is averaging 12.1 points and 12.3 rebounds per contest with five 'double-doubles'.
Bopp enters the game with 829 rebounds, third best all-time at Rider and 19 rebounds behind Bronc Hall of Famer Kelly Eckardt who pulled down 848 boards from 1987-90.
Manhattan (5-14, 2-6 MAAC) is coming off a loss to Saint Peter's on Sunday as the Peacocks won for the first time this season after 18 straight losses.
The Jaspers are led by junior guard Monica Roeder who is averaging 11.1 points per game.
Rider defeated the Jaspers 48-41 on January 6 in Riverdale, New York, behind 18 points and eight rebounds from McKenzie and 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds from Bopp.
The Jaspers lead the all-time series 26-9.
After the game against Manhattan, Rider hosts Niagara on Saturday, February 2 at 2pm for Alumni Day and the Broncs host Fairfield on Thursday, February 7 at 5pm in a doubleheader with the Rider men.
