Rider Home Saturday
Broncs face Niagara at 2pm on Alumni Day
LAWRENCEVILLE--Riding a three-game winning streak, the Rider University women's basketball team is back in action on Saturday when the Broncs host Niagara University in a 2pm Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Alumni Gymnasium.
During the game, Rider will recognize all women's basketball alumni in attendance and the team has an alumni reception scheduled following the game.
Rider (10-10, 5-4 MAAC) is coming off a thrilling, come from behind 60-57 win over Manhattan Thursday evening that saw the Broncs use a late 8-0 run to get the win.
Rider was led in the game by graduate student Carleigh Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) who had six points, eight rebounds, four steals and two assists in 31 minutes after being pressed into the starting lineup due to the illness of senior Caitlin Bopp (Baltimore, Md./Inst. of Notre Dame). Bopp is expected to be back in the lineup Saturday.
The Broncs were also led by sophomore Emily Fazzini (Wayne, Pa./Archbishop Carroll.) who had 12 points, with junior MyNeshia McKenzie (Springfield, Pa./Springfield (Delco)) adding a 'double-double' of 11 points and a career-high tying 16 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
The MAAC Player of the Week for all games last week and a Second Team Preseason All-MAAC honoree, McKenzie recorded her 21st career 'double-double' and ninth of the season.
12 of Rider's 20 games have been decided by seven or less points this season with the Broncs recording five wins.
Thursday evening was Rider's third MAAC win in a row. The last time the Broncs won three conference games in a row was January 11-18, 2009 when Rider defeated Manhattan, Loyola University and Iona College.
Rider has also won two home conference games in a row. The last time the Broncs won two conference games in a row in Alumni Gym was February 19-21, 2003 when Rider defeated Marist College and Iona.
The Purple Eagles defeated Rider 62-58 on January 18 at the Taps' Gallagher Center and Niagara is coming off a 71-68 loss in overtime at Loyola Maryland Thursday evening.
