Former Coach Greenwood Dies
The Rider department of athletics was saddened to hear of the passing of former Rider basketball coach Bob Greenwood, who died January 31 at the age of 83.
Coach Greenwood led the 20-8 1963 Rider basketball team to the District 31 Playoffs and the NAIA Tournament, and the 1964 team to the nationally acclaimed upset of NYU. His final season at Rider was 1965.
Greenwood compiled a 48-29 record at Rider and coached Rider Hall of Famers Digger Phelps, Dick Kuchen and Jack Cryan.
Greenwood came to Rider form Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio, where he compiled a 34-9 record.
He was a graduate of Kent State University. He was born in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and competed in football and track at Ohio University before transferring to Kent State. At Gainesville High School in Georgia he was an All-State selection in football and was the State Champion in the broad jump.
