Broncs Host Peacocks Thursday

The Rider men's basketball team plays its final three home games of the season in the next 10 days, starting Thursday when the Broncs host the Peacocks of Saint Peter's University.

The 7pm tip in Alumni Gymnasium can be seen on the BroncSportsNetwork, with live video streaming on BroncVison and live stats on GameViewer.

Tickets can be purchased online by clicking the "TicketLeap" link in this story or in person on game day at the ticket window in the lobby of Alumni Gymnasium.  The ticket booth will open at 6 p.m. for Thursday's game.

The Broncs have won two of their last three games and seven of their last 11, including a 66-54 win at Saint Peter's on January 17. In that game, making his first collegiate start, junior Tommy Pereira compiled a career-high 17 points, making five three-pointers to lead Rider to victory in the National MAAC Game of the Week. The Broncs out-rebounded Saint Peter's 35-20 that night.

Saint Peter's was one of the original members of the MAAC (1981-82). The Peacocks have won three MAAC Championship Tournaments (2011, 1995, 1991) and finished runner-up four times (2006, 1999, 1989, 1982).

The Peacocks (8-16, 3-11 MAAC) defeated Siena on Sunday by 10 points, their second win in four games but also just their second win in their last 12 games. Saint Peter's also defeated Marist on January 31. Against Siena sophomore guard Desi Washington scored 24 points.

Saint Peter's is 3-8 away from its home Yanitelli Center this year, 0-6 in MAAC games on the road.

The Peacocks are led by Washington (14.5 ppg) and senior guard Yvon Raymond (10.3 points, 5.3 rebs).

The Broncs and Peacocks have met 52 times since the series began in 1942-43, with Rider winning 28, including the last four.

Rider (13-13, 8-6 MAAC) has won 12 of the last 15 meetings with Saint Peter's. Since joining the MAAC Rider is 23-14 against Saint Peter's. Rider beat SPU in the 2010 MAAC Tournament, the sixth time these two teams met in postseason play.

The Broncs continue to be led by senior Jonathon Thompson and juniors Anthony Myles and Daniel Stewart.  The three combine for 36 points and 15.4 rebounds per game.

At half time 227 student-athletes will be honored for their high grade point averages as part of Academic Achievement Night.

Following the Valentine's Day game the Broncs return to Alumni Gym for a doubleheader with the women broadcast on ESPN3 Sunday afternoon, with the women hosting Loyola on National Girls and Women in Sports Day (1pm) and the men hosting Marist at 4pm.
