Rider Hosts National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday on ESPN 3

LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University women's basketball team will host Loyola University Maryland as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Sunday at 1pm.

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader (with the Bronc men playing Marist College at 4pm) will be seen on ESPN 3.

Prior to the game, there will be a free all sports clinic for girls ages 5-18.

"We get tremendous support for all of our women's sports programs from Rider faculty, staff and alumni and our local community members so this all-sports clinic with all of our female student-athletes is our way to give back.  In past years, we've gotten calls from parents telling us how much a young girl enjoyed learning about a new sport during the clinic," said Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations and Development/SWA, Karin Torchia.  "The celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day also allows us to honor our women's teams and their accomplishments both athletically and academically."

As part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Rider invites girls ages 5 to 18 to a free all-sports clinic with seven of the Broncs' varsity women's athletics teams (field hockey, volleyball, soccer, tennis, softball, track & field, cross country) and cheerleading from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center adjacent to Alumni Gym on Rider's campus.  Check-in/registration for the clinic will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the actual clinic activities will begin at 11 a.m. Complimentary tickets to the Rider vs. Loyola women's basketball game at 1 p.m. will also be given to all clinic participants.  Girls do not need to have any prior experience in any of the sports to participate in the clinic.  All equipment will be provided during the clinic, however, if participants prefer they may bring their own equipment.

Pre-registration for the clinic is preferred, but not required and girls can just show up on Sunday to participate.  To pre-register for the clinic, call 609.896.5054 or e-mail pconti@rider.edu.

Tickets to the women's basketball game on February 17 at 1 p.m. are free for ALL kids 18 & under and adult tickets are discounted to $3. Please note, there is a separate ticket for the men's game that will follow the women's game that day, but the free kid's tickets and adult tickets discount is only applicable for the women's game at 1 p.m.  Fans can purchase tickets or get more information on the day's events by calling the Rider Athletics ticket office at 609-896-5054.
