Rider's Sadler MAAC Rookie of Week
LAWRENCEVILLE-Rider University freshman basketball player Zedric Sadler was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for all games played February 11-17.
"I am very happy for Zed that he is being honored as the MAAC rookie of the week," said Rider head coach Kevin Baggett. "He has truly been a great asset to our program and comes to us with a great work ethic and a toughness this team needed."
A 6'2" guard, Sadler (Detroit, Mich./Cody) came in off the bench in two MAAC wins last week and averaged 12.5 points and 2.0 assists per game, shooting 64 percent from the field, 70 percent from three-pointers (seven for 10), playing 29 minutes per game.
"Zedric comes in and hits big shots and gets (defensive) stops," Baggett said.
Sadler made a three-point field goal with 2:00 left to give Rider a 65-59 lead in 67-63 win over Marist on Sunday on ESPN3.
The former "Mr. West Side" of Detroit scholastic hoops scored a career high 16 points in win over Saint Peter's on Thursday.
For the season, Sadler is averaging 5.2 points per game, fifth most on the team, while playing 21.7 minutes per game. He has played in all 28 games for the 15-13 Broncs, all but one off the bench.
"Zed is whatever we need him to be every night," Baggett said of his first guard off the bench. "He brings energy defensively and he can score."
Sadler and the Broncs play a non-conference game 5pm Saturday, February 23, when Rider hosts Charleston Southern University in the BracketBuster game.
