College Swimming and Diving
at ECAC's Day 1
Men 8th of 19 / Women 9th of 21
Cambridge, Mass.--Both the Rider University men's and women's swimming and diving teams are competing at the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships (ECAC) Friday through Sunday.
The Rider men are in eighth place with 51 points and the Bronc women are in ninth place with 53 points after the opening day of competition.
The meet is being hosted by Harvard University.
For the Rider men, junior Trevor Hiller (Galloway Twp./Absegami) finished sixth in the three-meter diving finals with a score of 249.60 and senior Brian Molloy (Toms River/Toms River East) finished 10th (4:34.26) in the 500 free final.
For the Rider women, the 400 medley relay team of senior Addie Oswald (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley), freshman Taylor Shelley (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy), senior Kelly O'Connor (Beverly, Mass./Beverly), and senior Katlyn Andrews (Lawrenceville/Notre Dame) placed sixth in 3:56.96. O'Connor was also 12th in the 200 IM (2:08.03) with Andrews finishing 14th in the 50 free (24.46).
Also for the Bronc men, in the 200 IM final senior Julien Hensen (Delafield, Wisc./Kettle Moraine) finished 12th in 1:52.29 and senior Johnny Funk (Las Vegas, Nev./Southeast Career & Tech. Academy) finished 15th in 1:54.40.
The men's 200 free relay team of freshman Adam Phillips (Springville, Pa./Elk Lake), junior Sean Newhouse (Katy, Tex./Morton Ranch) sophomore Kevin McManus (Sharon, Mass./Sharon) and senior Jimmy Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) finished seventh in 1:26.53.
The women's 200 free relay team of Andrews (Lawrenceville/Notre Dame), senior Carly Misiewicz (Vineland/Sacred Heart), junior Danielle Warwick (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) and senior A. Oswald finished ninth (1:37.33).
Both the Rider men and women finished fifth out of 18 teams at the 2012 ECACs.
Day two will begin Saturday morning with prelims at 10:00 AM and the finals starting at 6:00 pm.
