COLUMBIA, SC-The Broncs lost at sixth ranked South Carolina Saturday evening.
Rider (6-3) scored three runs on three hits in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 8-4, two runs scoring on a single by junior Jerry Mulderig (Langhorne, PA/Council Rock South), his second hit of the game,
The Gamecocks (12-2) broke the game open with four runs in the fourth inning to take an 8-1 lead.
Rider freshman James Locklear (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) knocked in an unearned run in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 8-5.
Sophomore catcher Eric Strano (Robbinsville) collected his second hit of the day and scored on a single by senior Ian Lindsay (Oaklyn/Haddon Twp.), his second hit of the day as well, to cut the lead to 8-2 in the fifth inning.
Rider took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Mulderig singled, went to third on a failed pick off and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Greg Fazio (Far Hills/Ridge).
SC scored three runs on three hits in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead and a solo home run in the third made it 4-1.
Sophomore Kurt Sowa (Bensalem, PA/Fr. Judge) started and allowed seven runs in three and one-third innings.
Rider plays SC in the third and final game of the three-game series Sunday at 1:30pm.
