LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University softball team returns to action today at Herb and Joan Young Field when the Broncs host future Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and in-state rival Monmouth University in a single game at 3pm.
Rider (2-11) is coming off a split against Columbia University on Sunday with the Broncs winning the nightcap 4-3 after losing the opener 7-6.
Rider has split four one-run games this season.
The Broncs are led by freshman Dana Sensi (Allentown) who leads the team in batting average (.385), hits (15), doubles (3) and total bases (18).
In the circle, red-shirt freshman Krista Morrone (Pipersville, Pa./Palisades) has both Rider wins this season and she leads in innings pitched (41.1) and is tied for the team lead with 13 strikeouts.
Monmouth opened the season 7-3, including two wins at George Mason and wins over Cornell, Furman, Delaware State and two wins over Norfolk State.
Today's game for the Hawks will be game 11 of a 16-game season-opening road trip.
After today's game, Rider heads to Florida for the Rebel Spring games, playing 10 contests in the Sunshine State, against North Dakota, Wagner, Utah Valley, Fairleigh Dickinson, Columbia, U Albany, Wisconsin Green Bay.
After a doubleheader at Army on March 24, the Broncs return home to face Hartford on March 26, in a doubleheader at 2:30pm.
Rider has also announced a schedule update with the April 11 game against Saint Joseph's becoming a doubleheader, beginning at 3pm. The contest was originally a single game.
