Diving at NCAA Zones Friday-Saturday
Rider Sending Two to NCAA Zones at VA Tech.
BLACKSBURG, Va.--The Rider University swimming and diving team will be sending junior diver Trevor Hiller (Galloway Twp./Absegami) and freshman diver Wayco Bailey (Casper, Wyo./Natrona County HS) to Virginia Tech. March 15-16 as NCAA Zone 'A' qualifiers.
The competition will take place at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
The men's one-meter will be Friday, beginning at noon and the three-meter competition will be Saturday, also at noon.
The one-meter and three-meter events will consist of a preliminary round of six dives using all five groups. The top 18 finishers from the preliminary round will advance to the final round and will perform a second list of six dives using all five groups.
As a sophomore, Hiller qualified for the NCAA Zone competition and was 18th in the finals with a score of 526.65 on the one-meter board after finishing 19th in the preliminaries on the three-meter board (272.85).
At the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships in mid-February, Hiller was named the Male Most Outstanding Diver of the Meet after winning the one-meter competition (281.20) after placing runner-up on the three-meter board (260.40) as the Broncs repeated as the team champion.
At MAACs, Bailey was fourth on the three-meter board (246.20) and seventh on the one-meter (216.35).
Hiller was a five-time MAAC Diver of the Week honoree in 2012-13 with Bailey earning the award on January 22, 2013.
Five qualifying spots for the NCAA Championships have been allocated to Zone A with four other competitions taking place throughout the weekend to fill out the diving portion of the championships.
