Rider Home Saturday

LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University softball team returns home this weekend when the Broncs host Canisius College on Saturday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader.

First pitch at Herb and Joan Young Field is scheduled for 1pm.

Rider has split two of its last four games, including a MAAC win over Saint Peter’s and a non-conference victory over Hartford.

The Broncs open play on Saturday at 1-1 in the MAAC with Canisius opening its conference slate after an opening weekend bye.

Rider is led by freshman Dana Sensi (Allentown) who leads the team in hitting (.367), hits (36), doubles (7), home runs (4) and RBI (18) while starting all 31 games.

Sensi earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors on March 25.

Recent strong play from sophomore Amanda Irving (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and rookie Emily Cottrell (Beachwood/Toms River HS South) earned Rider three more accolades this past week with Irving recognized as both the MAAC and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week and Cottrell earning MAAC Rookie of the Week honors.

Red-shirt freshman pitcher Krista Morrone (Pipersville, Pa./Palisades) has five wins for Rider and leads the team in innings pitched (101.1) and strikeouts (29).

Canisius enters play 13-12.
