Coleman sets Rider record in 200-meter dash at Princeton
PRINCETON/BETHLETHEM , Pa--The Rider University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University and at the Greyhound Invitational, hosted by Moravian College this weekend.
“We had a very good day today highlighted by some strong performances in the sprints and hurdles,” head coach Bob Hamer said.
At Princeton for the Rider women, freshman La’tazah Coleman (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) won the 200-meter dash in Rider record and ECAC qualifying time (23.87). Coleman also was fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.13).
“La’tazah (Coleman) ran a wonderful 200 to smash the Rider record by almost a second,” said Hamer.
At Princeton for the Rider men, senior David Hightower (Easton, Pa/Easton) was third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.60) in IC4A qualifying time, senior James Burroughs was fourth in the 100-hurdles (14.62) in IC4A qualifying time and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in IC4A qualifying time, sophomore George Solujich (East Windsor/Notre Dame) was sixth in the shot put (15.78) reaching an IC4A qualifying mark and sophomore Nasser Zayer (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Tech) was seventh in the 1500-meter run (3:58.67).
“(James) Burroughs had a nice day qualifying for IC4A’s in two individual events and one relay,” Hamer said, “We also had many athletes achieve personal bests and compete at the top of their ability.”
Also at Princeton for the Rider women, freshman Dashana Ransome (Irvington) was third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.14) in ECAC qualifying time and freshman Madeline Hummel (Marlton/Holy Cross) was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.80).
At Moravian for the Bronc women, senior Paige McAtee (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) was third in the 1500-meter run (4:44.00), freshman Nicole Georgia (Lincoln Park/Boonton) was third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.83) and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.01), freshman Miranda Roberts (Sewell/Washington Twp.) was fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.44), freshman Andrea McKenna (Parlin/St. John Vianney) was fifth in the discus throw (36.72m), freshman Alicia Carthan (Bordentown) was sixth in the discus throw (31.87m), senior Erin Fitzgibbons (Sayreville) was sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:45.00) and sophomore Taylor Harmon (Robbinsville) was sixth in the high jump (1.65m)
At Moravian for the Bronc men, junior Corey O’Neill (Old Bridge) was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:32.00), sophomore Anthony DeFranco (Berkeley Heights/Governor Livingston) was fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.37), freshman Sam Knipper (Randolph) was fifth in the 1500-meter run (3:59.75) and junior Quintin Robin (Jamison, Pa/Central Bucks East) was sixth in the high jump (1.83m).
“It was a definite improvement from the previous evening,” Hamer said, “If we can achieve some consistency in our performance and put it all together on the same day, we’ll be a very good team. We continue to have individual breakthroughs every week and it’s exciting to be a part of this team.”
Next up for the Rider men and women is the Penn Relays, April 25th and 26th at Franklin Field.
