Siena took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a walk, a triple and a ground out and went up 4-0 in the fourth on a two-out walk and a home run.
“They hit some gapers and hit some home runs in the first game,” Davis said of the Saints. “They are hot right now, playing well.”
Rider senior pitcher Tyler Smith (Westmont/Haddon Twp.) went five innings, allowing seven runs.
Rider won two of the three games with Siena last year in Lawrenceville. The last time Rider traveled to Loudonville Rider lost two of three in 2011.
Rider and Siena have met 54 times since the series began in 1995 with each team having won 27. Rider won all three games against Siena in 2010 and all three at Siena in 2009.
The third game of the series is Sunday at 12 noon. “Tomorrow’s going to be a tough one,” Davis said.
