Three Broncs All-New Jersey
LAWRENCEVILLE—Three members of the Rider University baseball team were named to the Division I All-State First Team by the New Jersey College Baseball Association.
Rider pitcher sophomore Kurt Sowa (Bensalem, PA/Fr. Judge), junior designated hitter Jerry Mulderig (Langhorne, PA/Council Rock South) and junior outfielder Nick Crescenzo (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) were honored by the NJCBA.
Sowa enters the final week of the regular season with a 10-1 record, tying the Rider mark for wins in a season. Opponents are batting just .181 against Sowa this year, who has an earned run average of 3.14.
Sowa was named to the NJCBA All-Rookie team last year and owns a 15-5 career record.
Mulderig leads Rider (33-18) with a .347 batting average, with 58 hits and 16 stolen bases in 48 games. Mulderig has a slugging percentage of .449 and an on base percentage of .439.
Crescenzo leads Rider in a unique combination of RBI (32) and stolen bases (18). The former Freshman All-American is batting .295 with 52 hits and 32 runs scored in 49 games. In the outfield he has 139 put outs and three assists without an error.
In 2011 Crescenzo was the NJCBA Rookie of the Year and currently has 161 hits in 145 career starts.
Rider enters the final weekend of the regular season in first place (17-4) in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and hosts the MAAC Championship Tournament May 23-26 at ARM & HAMMER Park, home of the Trenton Thunder.
