Rider’s Wolfe AWN All-Rookie Team
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Rider University freshman Ryan Wolfe was named to the Amateur Wrestling News All-Rookie team.
Wolfe (New Castle, Del./Caravel) finished his rookie season with a 23-11 overall record as the Colonial Athletic Association 184 pound runner-up.
“Ryan started the season as a red-shirt then was inserted into the starting lineup around mid-year and did a great job for us,” said associate head coach John Hangey. “Ryan is a very talented wrestler who has a strong desire and work ethic to be the best in the country. “
A true freshman, Wolfe was supposed to red-shirt the 2012-13 season but was thrown into the starting lineup due to injuries on the Rider squad.
AWN ranked Wolfe as the fourth best 184 pound freshman in the nation.
Wolfe went 7-2 in dual meets, 5-1 against CAA opponents, and advanced to the CAA finals before losing to national qualifier Cody Reed of Binghamton in sudden victory in the CAA finals.
Wolfe helped Rider finish runner-up in the CAA Championships, Rider’s last CAA tournament before moving to the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL).
Wolfe was the 2012 Delaware State Champion and was a two-time State Finalist at Caravel Academy, where he was the Beast of the East Champion and ranked 12th in the nation last year. The Delaware Wrestler of the Year in 2012, Wolfe compiled 173 wins, the second most all-time in Delaware Scholastic wrestling.
