Rider Names Kape, Meier Captains

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Rider University women’s soccer coach Drayson Hounsome has announced that senior Jennifer Meier and junior Becca Kape will be the captains of the 2013 squad.

Meier (Sayville, NJ/St. Anthony’s) was a First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection last year and a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Third Team Scholar All-America Team.

Kape (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) was a member of the MAAC All-Rookie team in 2010 and a Preseason All-MAAC pick in 2011 before red-shirting that season. Kape came back to start 14 games last year as a MAAC All-Academic team selection.

"Becca and Jenn have proven themselves as two of the premier players in the MAAC,” Hounsome said, “demonstrating a tremendous commitment to the success of our soccer program.”

Last year the Broncs had the best winning percentage (.676) in program history with a 10-4-3 record, Rider’s most wins since 2004.

Last year Meier started all 17 games and led the team in goals.  A 52-game veteran, Meier enters her senior season fifth on Rider's all-time scoring list, fifth in goals and 10th in assists.

Kape is a veteran of 34 games on the Rider defense, making 32 starts.

“We are extremely confident they will help lead the team to success over the next four months,” Hounsome said.

The 2013 season begins August 23 at Bucknell before the home opener August 30. The 11-team MAAC Championship Tournament is October 31-November 4 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
