2013 Volleyball Schedule Released
Rider Opens in New Orleans August 30
Home Opener September 11
LAWRENCEVILLE--Three tournaments including a trip to New Orleans and 11 home matches highlight the 2013 Rider University volleyball schedule, recently released by head coach Christopher Feliciano.
“Our goal was to challenge the team and increase the difficulty of the schedule in non-conference competition,” Feliciano said about the 30-match slate. “We increased our win total from 2011 to 2012 and my goal was to challenge the team so that we are better prepared for MAAC competition.”
The Broncs open the season in New Orleans at the Kathy Trosclair Memorial Tournament, hosted by Tulane August 30-31.
“With the MAAC hosting the 10-team conference tournament at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Florida next season (2014), I felt that it was important to have a tournament both this season and next season where we had to get on a plane and play a bunch of tough matches in a short amount of time,” Feliciano added. “That was my goal for going to New Orleans.”
After a non-conference match at Fairleigh Dickinson on September 4, Rider returns to tournament play with the St. Francis Terrier Invitational (Howard, NJIT, St. Francis) September 6-7.
The home opener is September 11 at 7pm against La Salle.
Rider’s final pre-conference tournament is the Bucknell Invitational September 13-14 against Canisius, FDU and the host Bison.
“The three tournaments are going to allow our newcomers to bond with the returning letterwinners,” Feliciano said about opening the season with 10 matches (out of 11) on the road. “When you are at home, each individual can kind of set their own schedule and being together on the road, we are one unified group and being together and relying on each other for that amount of time is going to make us stronger.”
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play opens on September 21 when Rider hosts perennial conference power Niagara at 1pm.
Defending MAAC champion Fairfield visits Lawrenceville on November 3, as part of a five-match home stand from October 30-November 9 when Rider will also play Iona, MAAC new comer Quinnipiac, Manhattan and Saint Peter’s.
“We worked on getting better and improving our standing in the MAAC,” said Feliciano. “We made strides in that direction but so did everyone else so it’s going to be a challenge but one I think we will be up to.”
Siena hosts the four-team MAAC championships November 23-24 in Loudonville, New York.
Coming off the most wins in nearly a decade, Rider returns 13 letterwinners for the 2013 season.
“We are excited about the upcoming season and can’t wait to get things started,” Feliciano said.
All home volleyball matches will be streamed on BroncVision, the pay per view video stream of Rider Athletics which is part of the MAAC.TV network.
GameWatcher (LiveStats) will also be available for free on the website for all home games and most away contests.
