Rider’s Aiello ACBL Closer of Year
LAWRENCEVILLE— Vincenzo Aiello of Rider University was named the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League Relief Pitcher of the Year.
Aiello (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) is the closer for the Trenton Generals. He compiled six saves and a 3-0 record with an earned run average of 0.50.
“Vincenzo had an excellent summer,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis. “He was consistent from start to finish and his award reflects it.”
Earlier this summer Aiello, who is entering his sophomore year at Rider, was named to the ACBL All-Star team.
For the ACBL season Aiello pitched in 13 games and struck out 21 batters in less than 18 innings pitched with just five walks. He gave up just one earned run all summer.
As a Rider rookie in 2013 Aiello saved conference wins over Manhattan, Saint Peter’s and Siena, helping Rider finish in first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season. In 16 innings he struck out 13 and walked six.
At Tottenville High Aiello was a New York City Mayor's Cup all-star as a senior in 2012. He owned a record of 4-0 and a 1.10 earned run average as a junior with 10 saves, compiling 68 strikeouts in 55 innings.
