New Jersey Inst. of Technology 6, Rider University 1
LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University men’s tennis team won only three games and were defeated by the New Jersey Institute of Technology 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
“NJIT was just a much steadier team,” said head coach Ed Torres. “They kept the ball alive and did not make many errors.”
NJIT won all of the contested matches with Rider receiving a forfeit victory at sixth singles and third doubles.
For the Broncs, senior Sean Sweeney (Franklinville/Delsea) won two of the three games for Rider, before losing 6-1, 6-1.
“Our guys kept the ball alive as long as they could but it wasn’t good enough,” Torres added. “NJIT is a very strong team, even with only five players. They out lasted us in most of the rallies.”
The Rider women travel to Rutgers Camden on Thursday. Both teams are back in action Saturday at Siena in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match.
