Rutgers Camden 5, Rider University 4
CAMDEN—In a nine-point match against Division III Rutgers Camden, the Rider University women’s tennis team lost 5-4 on Thursday afternoon.
“These were two evenly matched teams,” said head coach Ed Torres. “The match could have gone either way.”
For Rider, junior Alison Noll (Monmouth Junction/South Brunswick) won 6-2, 6-2 at first singles with junior Michelle Caravaglio (Manalapan/Freehold), also winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 at second singles.
“Everyone played pretty well,” Torres said. "Alison and Michelle had strong matches, winning in both singles and doubles play.”
Trailing one set to none, Toner took her third singles match to three sets with a 6-2 win before losing the super tie breaker 10-5.
“The match came down to the third set of the third singles match,” Torres said. "Kerrin took her opponent down to the wire and it could have gone either way.”
Rider won two of the three doubles matches.
“It is a rare time that you win the majority of the doubles matches and don’t win the overall match,” Torres added. “We’ll try to get them in the spring when we play them again.”
The teams last met in the fall of 2011 with Rider posting a 9-0 victory.
Both the Bronc men’s and women’s tennis teams travel to Siena College on Saturday at 11 a.m. for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match.
