Rider Athletes of the Month for September ‘13

Cross Country’s Dentino, Field Hockey’s Penas

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Anthony Dentino of the cross country team and Sandra Penas of the field hockey team are the Rider University Athletes of the Month for all competition in September.

Dentino, a junior from Sewell, ran in three races this season and finished first or second in every one.

Penas, a senior from Barcelona, Spain, currently ranks among the national leaders with six goals, five assists and 17 points, and tied the Rider career scoring mark with 150 points.

The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, Penas led Rider to a 6-3 record and ranks 29th in the nation in points, 33rd in assists and 47th in goals.  Penas was named the MAAC Player of the Week the third week of the season.

An All-East and All-MAAC harrier, Dentino won the Monmouth Invitational with a Rider-record time of 26:05.72 on the Holmdel Park course, winning by 15 seconds over the second place runner from Monmouth.

Dentino was the first collegiate finisher and second overall at the TCNJ Blue Gold Classic, setting a Rider record on the 5K Rosedale Park course of 15:19.31.

At the Fordham Fiasco held at Van Courtlandt State Park, Dentino was the second overall finisher among the 82 runners, covering the five mile course in 26:00.

The cross country team competes at Lehigh’s Paul Short Run October 5.

The field hockey team also visits Lehigh this weekend, playing on October 6.
