Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match

HAMDEN, Conn.—The Rider University volleyball team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Quinnipiac University on Saturday afternoon on Burt Kahn Court.

Quinnipiac (3-13, 1-3 MAAC) won the two hour match 25-20, 24-26, 25-21, 25-22 in a contest that featured 27 ties and eight lead changes.

“We didn’t play well and we know it,” said head coach Christopher Feliciano.  “When you hit the ball into the block more than 20 times, you can expect to lose the match.”

For Rider (10-4, 2-2 MAAC), freshman Ryan Ackermann (Leesburg, Va./Stone Bridge) had 17 kills and seven digs, accounting for 19 of Rider’s 58 points.

Freshman Alaina Piszczek (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) had 11 digs and five assists and junior Jaclyn Webber (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon) added 10 digs and eight kills for Rider.

Junior Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) led the Broncs with 23 assists and eight digs with sophomore Brandie Hill (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) compiling 13 assists.

Amatulli has 1,749 assists, 28 assists behind Erica West who is fifth on Rider’s all-time assist list with 1,777 assists from 2000-2003.

Quinnipiac has won five of six matches all-time against the Broncs with Rider’s only series win coming during the 2000 season.

“All Quinnipiac had to do was swing and score,” Feliciano added.  “That was directly due to our inability to block their shots.”

The teams meet again on November 2 in Alumni Gymnasium for a 1pm MAAC match.

Rider stays in Connecticut to face Fairfield University in a MAAC match on Sunday.

The Stags defeated Saint Peter’s 28-26, 25-17, 25-19 Saturday afternoon.
