Rider’s Flath MAAC Rookie of Week
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Rider University freshman Christian Flath has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s soccer Rookie of the Week for all games played the first week of October.
Flath, a midfielder from Bargeshagen, Germany, had a goal and two assists in a 1-1 week for the 6-3 Broncs, who are 1-0 in the MAAC.
“Christian is a solid player,” said Rider head coach Charlie Inverso.
In Rider’s 3-1 MAAC win over Marist, Flath scored the goal that gave Rider a 1-0 lead and assisted on the goal that gave Rider a 2-0 lead.
He scored on a direct kick when he bent the ball around the defensive wall and just inside the right goal post, the second time this season he has scored that way. “He’s a good kicker of the ball,” Inverso said of his star freshman.
Earlier in the week, in Rider’s double overtime loss to Seton Hall, Flath assisted on the goal that gave Rider a 1-0 lead in the 2-1 loss. “Christian is not fancy and sometimes goes unnoticed but he holds down everything in the midfield,” Inverso said.
Flath currently leads the MAAC in goals (five), assists (five) and points (15). “He’s a real asset to this team,” Inverso said.
Rider travels to Saint Peter’s Wednesday.
