Women’s Soccer Home, Finally
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Rider University women’s soccer team will play its first home game in 18 days when the Broncs host Saint Peter’s Wednesday night, October 9, at 7:30 pm on the Ben Cohen Field.
Rider (4-6, 1-3 MAAC) won its last home game, a 1-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory over Siena, but since then has lost three conference games on the road.
Saint Peter’s (2-9, 0-5 MAAC) is on a five-game losing streak, all against MAAC teams. In those five games the Peacocks were out-scored 12-1.
Among common opponents this year, SPU lost 2-0 to Siena, lost to NJIT 3-2 (Rider lost to NJIT 2-0) and lost 3-0 to Quinnipiac (Rider lost 2-0 to QU).
The Peacocks have taken the least amount of shots in the MAAC (7.09 per game, compared to 11.4 by Rider) and have allowed the most goals in the MAAC (28, compared to 18 by Rider).
Freshman Ashley Drozd leads the Peacocks with three goals and an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Molly O’Halloran has played every minute in the Peacock goal and has made 46 saves.
Rider is led by senior Jennifer Meier (Sayville, NY/St. Anthony’s), who ranks fourth in the MAAC in goals (five) and points (12).
Rider freshman Michelle Iacono (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) ranks second in the MAAC with three game-winning goals.
Rider freshman goalkeeper Vanessa Perdomo (Hillsborough, NJ/South Brunswick) ranks second in the MAAC in save percentage (.839) and fourth in the MAAC in goals against average (1.00) and owns a 3-2 record in the Rider nets.
Rider won 6-2 at Saint Peter’s last season. The last time SPU came to Rider the Broncs lost 2-1 despite out-shooting the Peacocks 35-7.
Rider and Saint Peter's have met 16 times since the series began in 1997 with Rider winning 13. Before 2011 the last time Saint Peter's defeated Rider was 2005.
The game Wednesday night will follow the 5pm Rider women’s field hockey game against Penn.
Weather permitting, Wednesday’s game, as well as all home soccer games, will be streamed on BroncVision, the pay per view video stream of Rider Athletics.
GameWatcher (LiveStats) will also be available for free on the GoBroncs.com website for all home games and most away contests.
