LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ— Home at Last is a song on Steely Dan’s best-selling album ‘Aja’ and is also the name of an album by the twerker’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus. Whether you are a fan of jazz, rock or country music, after suffering three losses on the road you have to be happy to be Home at Last.

The Rider women’s soccer team played its first home game in 18 days on Wednesday night and defeated Saint Peter’s 3-1 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game. “It’s good to be home at last, after 18 days,” said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome.

With the win, the Broncs are now 4-0 at home this season. “Good to be home, good to get a win,” Hounsome said. “It was a good performance tonight.”

Freshman Hollie Kelsh (Lancashire, England/Sandbach) and senior Jennifer Meier (Sayville, NY/St. Anthony’s) each had a goal and an assist to lead Rider to victory.

Freshman Priscilla Santos (Glendora, Calif./Glendora) scored her first collegiate goal in the 11th minute of play when Kelsh took a short corner kick to Meier who crossed the ball into the box for Santos.

“I got a great cross from Jenn and just got my head on it,” said the Biology major from Southern California.  “I really wanted it to happen. It was exciting.”

“Priscilla did well,” Hounsome said.  “We moved her around. She played left back, right back, center midfield and she scored a goal. She’s a quality player and it was good to see her get her first goal today.”

Kelsh took a pass from freshman Michelle Iacono (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) and scored her second goal of the season to go along with her three assists, giving the Broncs a 2-0 lead with 9:23 left in the first half.

After Saint Peter’s (2-10, 0-6 MAAC) cut the lead to 2-1 with an indirect kick from 12 yards out, Meier scored her team-high sixth goal of the season and the 24th of her career from 18 yards out off another assist from Iacono with less than 20 minutes remaining.

Rider (5-6, 2-3 MAAC) out-shot Saint Peter’s 23-11.

Rider freshman goalkeeper Vanessa Perdomo (Hillsborough, NJ/South Brunswick) played the first half and made two saves.  Rider freshman Bethany-May Howard (Glastonbury, England/Bridgwater College) played the second half and made one save.

Rider won 6-2 at Saint Peter’s last season.  The last time SPU came to Rider the Broncs lost 2-1 despite out-shooting the Peacocks 35-7.

Rider and Saint Peter's have now met 17 times since the series began in 1997 with Rider winning 14. Before 2011 the last time Saint Peter's defeated Rider was 2005.

Rider hosts Iona Saturday at 1pm. “We know we have to take care of the home games and we have another one this Saturday,” Hounsome said.  “We have to find a way to win.”

There’s no place like home.
