Rider’s Elgin CAANJ Student-Athlete of the Year
SOMERSET, NJ—Rider University graduate student Megan Elgin was named the Collegiate Athletic Administrators of New Jersey Student Athlete of the Year for the 2012-13 academic year at a luncheon Thursday.
“This is a great honor for Megan,” said Rider cross country and track & field head coach Bob Hamer. “She is very deserving of this award. She is an outstanding student, outstanding athlete, and outstanding person. She has maximized her potential in all of her endeavors and she has made a significant impact at Rider. We are very proud to have Meg as part of our program.”
A member of the Rider University cross country and track & field teams, Elgin (Doylestown, PA) set four Rider records in indoor track, three in outdoor track and had the highest finish ever for a Rider runner at an NCAA Regional.
A Psychology major with a 3.89 cumulative grade point average, Elgin was an All-MAAC performer in all three sports as a senior. She placed fifth in the MAAC cross country championship race, placed third in the MAAC 5000m indoor and the 10,000m outdoor and placed fourth in the MAAC 3,000m indoor and the 5,000m outdoor.
She placed 35th in the NCAA Regional cross country race and was 10th overall at the ECAC Championships to earn All-East honors.
Elgin led the Rider outdoor track team to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship in 2013 and to a MAAC runner-up finish during the indoor season. During the cross country season she led Rider to a ninth place finish in the ECAC Championships.
During her Rider career she has twice earned Rider Athlete of the Month honors and has been a MAAC cross country Runner of the Week. She earned MAAC All-Academic team honors nine times.
