Midnight MAACness Catching Fire was a huge success as more than 1,700 students packed Alumni Gym Friday night for what has become an annual University tradition.

This year's theme could be seen throughout MAACness as the Bronc, cheer and dance teams all incorporated elements of The Hunger Games into their performances.  The night also featured a basketball highlight video, introduction of the men's and women's teams, a three-point shootout and the dunk contest which was won by senior Daniel Stewart.  The new video board in Alumni Gym was in use and allowed for additional spectators as all seating was able to be used for the first time during this event since screens were not in place at the far end of the facility.

Perhaps the most talked about part of MAACness however, was the surprise choreographed dance done by the women's basketball team to a medley of songs.  The team worked for weeks on the performance and wanted to add it to MAACness this year to show the student body a little bit more of their personalities off the basketball court.

"It was great to see so many students come out and support the basketball teams again this year at MAACness," said Karin Torchia, associate director of athletics and senior women's administrator.  "Everyone was spirited and excited and we hope they bring that kind of energy to all of our games this season."

More photos from the event will be uploaded soon. The complete video archive is also available to view for free on BroncVision.
