LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Two members of the Rider University women’s soccer team, senior Jennifer Meier and freshman Hollie Kelsh, have been honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Meier (Sayville, NY/St. Anthony’s) a 5’3” forward, was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week and Kelsh (Lancashire, England/Sandbach) a 5’4” midfielder, was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week, for all games played October 7-13.

“It is nice for them both to receive this recognition from the MAAC office,” said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome.

Meier was also named the ECAC Player of the Week and National Player of the Week by

In Rider’s 2-0 week, Meier scored four goals and added an assist. Kelsh scored one goal and had two assists.

In Rider’s 3-1 MAAC win over Saint Peter’s, Meier assisted on the goal that gave Rider a 1-0 lead and scored the goal that gave Rider a 3-1 lead.  Kelsh also assisted on the goal that gave Rider a 1-0 lead and scored the goal that gave Rider a 2-0 lead.

In Rider’s 3-0 MAAC win over Iona, Meier scored all three goals, the third goal being assisted by Kelsh.

“Jen had a terrific week with goals in both matches and her hat trick against Iona,” Hounsome said. “Scoring two goals with her left foot and two with her right foot highlight the difficulties teams have handling her when she is in this kind of form. Hollie scored, had a couple of assists and also hit a couple of crossbars this week which was great to see. She is dangerous attacking from midfield and has the potential to follow in Jen's footsteps here at Rider, scoring some quality goals.”

Kelsh now has two goals and four assists for eight points. Her four assists is fourth most in the MAAC.

Meier ranks second in the MAAC with nine goals and 21 points.  Her 27 career goals is this highest ever at Rider, and her 66 career points is fourth most in program history.

Rider (6-6, 3-3 MAAC) plays at Monmouth Wednesday.
