Rider Back in Action Wednesday Night
LAWRENCEVILLE—Fresh off a win at second place Manhattan College on Sunday, the Rider University volleyball team swings back into action tonight when the Broncs host Delaware State University in the final non-conference match of the 2013 season.
Action begins at 7 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium on the Lawrenceville campus.
Rider and DSU last met on October 25, 2012, when the Broncs won 3-1, including three 25-23 sets in a row after losing the opening set 25-10 to the Hornets.
The Broncs are 4-0 all-time vs. the Hornets.
At 11-8, Rider is looking to surpass its win total from a year ago.
Rider has been led by the play of rookie Kaitlyn Griffin (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) who is averaging 2.47 kills per set and junior Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) who has compiled 6.03 assists per set.
Amatulli enters play with 1,864 career assists, 34 assists behind Laura Berger for fourth place all-time on the Bronc career assist list. Berger had 1,898 assists from 2000-2002.
Griffin and Amatulli have both come up ‘aces’ for the Bronc squad this season as both are nationally ranked (top 120) in aces per set.
As a team, Rider is 34th nationally, averaging 1.34 aces per set.
After tonight, Rider hits the road for its annual Western, New York trip, taking on Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rivals Canisius (October 26) and Niagara (October 27).
