LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—In all spheres of life, particularly within the world of athletics, healthy competition can spur individuals and teams on to achieve great things.

Friday night in Alumni Gymnasium, members of the 2013-14 Rider University wrestling team will compete for starting roles in the annual Cranberry and White Wrestle Offs.

“Wrestle offs are an opportunity for the individuals on the team to initially earn a starting spot in the lineup,” said associate head coach John Hangey.  “They are also a gauge for us as coaches to evaluate where each kid and the team as a whole stands before our season gets up and running.”

Team White is led by McNeil at 197, Wolfe at 184 and Morris at 133.

McNeil begins the season ranked 32nd in the nation by The Wrestling Report. Last year he won 21 matches on his way to the NCAA Championships.

Wolfe was supposed to red-shirt last season but due to injuries on the team was pressed into duty and ended up being named to the Amateur Wrestling News National All-Rookie team after winning 23 matches and placing runner-up at the CAAs.

Morris compiled 25 wins last season with a team-high eight falls on his way to the NCAAs.

Friday night at 7pm, the Rider wrestlers will attempt to earn their roles on the 2013-14 squad, and all fans are admitted free of charge to witness it.
