Broncs Host Canisius Wednesday
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Following three losses on the road, the Rider Broncs return home to the friendly confines of Ben Cohen Field to host Canisius in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Wednesday at 3pm.
Rider (7-8-1, 2-5-1 MAAC) is 5-3 at home this year and has two regular season games remaining, both at Ben Cohen Field.
“We’ve got two home games this week and we still have a lot to play for,” said Rider head coach Charlie Inverso. “We have a lot to look forward to, for the rest of this year and for the years to come.”
Rider and Canisius are tied for seventh place in the 11-team MAAC, with the top four teams reaching the playoffs. Rider and Canisius each have seven points, seven points behind fourth place Manhattan (4-2-2).
Canisius (6-8-2, 2-5-1 MAAC) comes to town riding a four-game losing streak. The last Golden Griffin victory came October 16 with a double overtime win over Siena.
The Broncs last won October 19 with a victory over Manhattan.
In MAAC play Rider also defeated Marist and tied Saint Peter’s, while Canisius also defeated Marist and tied Manhattan.
The Broncs continue to be led by freshman Christian Flath (Bargeshagen, Germany), who ranks second in the MAAC in assists (eight) and fourth in points (18).
Last year Rider won 2-1 in overtime at Canisius. The last time Canisius came to Lawrenceville Rider lost 2-1 in overtime in the final home game of the 2011 season but the Broncs came back to defeat the Golden Griffins in the first round of the MAAC Tournament.
Rider and Canisius have met 18 times with each team winning nine.
The 2013 regular season finale is Saturday, November 9, a 7pm home game against Quinnipiac. Prior to that game Rider’s graduating senior, Academic All-American candidate Eric Elgin, will be honored.
Weather permitting, Wednesday’s game, as well as all home soccer games, will be streamed on BroncVision, the pay per view video stream of Rider Athletics.
GameWatcher (LiveStats) will also be available for free on the GoBroncs.com website for all home games and most away contests.
