Griffin Honored by the MAAC for the Fourth Time
EDISON—For the fourth time this season, freshman Kaitlyn Griffin (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) of the Rider University volleyball team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
A Behavioral Neuroscience major, Griffin was recognized for her play October 28-November 3 it was announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
“It is a rewarding feeling watching Kaitlyn grow into the player that we thought she would be,” said head coach Christopher Feliciano. “Her earning her fourth award is a testament to the entire team and their dedication to our system.”
Griffin was also recognized as the MAAC Rookie of the Week on September 3, September 9 and October 29.
Griffin averaged 2.22 kills per set in Rider’s three matches last week.
In Rider’s 3-0 MAAC win over Quinnipiac, Griffin hit .368 with nine kills and only two errors, while adding four digs.
In Rider’s match against defending MAAC champion Fairfield on November 3, Griffin had eight kills and hit .280, making only one error as the first place Stags were pushed to the limit, defeating the Broncs by only two points in sets two and three.
Griffin is third in the conference in hitting percentage (.310), fifth in aces per set (0.32) and sixth in blocks (0.96) and points per set (3.37) and she has helped Rider to 14 wins, the most victories since the 2004 season when Rider went 15-13 and qualified for the four-team conference playoffs.
Rider hosts Manhattan in a MAAC match on Wednesday at 7 p.m., in Alumni Gymnasium.
