Soccer Season Finale
Eric Elgin Night
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Rider University men’s soccer team will host Quinnipiac University Saturday evening at 7pm on the Ben Cohen Field.
It will be the first-ever meeting between Rider and new Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference member Quinnipiac, and it will be the last game for Rider graduating senior Eric Elgin.
“In my 25 plus years coaching on the college level, Elgin is the best leader I have ever had,” said Rider head coach Charlie Inverso, who has seen over 40 of his former players become college or high school coaches.
The only senior on the young Rider squad, Elgin leads through example on and off the field. Off the field, Elgin is a District II All-Academic selection this year and his name is now on the Capital One Academic All-America ballot. On campus he serves as the President of the Catholic Campus Ministry at Rider. As the main defender on the field, he has led Rider to one of the best goals against average in the MAAC as the team captain.
“I hate to think what it is going to be like on Monday, when Elgin is no longer a member of this team,” Inverso said.
The Broncs (8-8-1, 3-5-1 MAAC) are 6-3 at home this year and continue to be led by the Rider Athlete of the Month for October, freshman Christian Flath (Bargeshagen, Germany). Flath ranks second in the MAAC in assists (8), third in points (20) and seventh in goals (6). He has at least one point in seven of Rider’s eight victories this year.
Quinnipiac (8-4-5, 6-1-2) is enjoying its first season in the MAAC and is currently in second place. After a five-game winning streak was snapped on October 26, losing to first place Monmouth, Quinnipiac is 2-0-1 in its last three games.
Weather permitting, Saturday’s game, as well as all home soccer games, will be streamed on BroncVision, the pay per view video stream of Rider Athletics.
GameWatcher (LiveStats) will also be available for free on the GoBroncs.com website.
